A New Year - A New Hope
This was Christmas day, 2018. Amazingly, Just a couple of weeks ago. Now there is a new year which can move us in many directions - new resolutions, fear of what may come, anticipation of new things, reminders of the old.
While this time of year can be depressing because all the celebrations are over, it’s too cold, it’s too dark, I have one goofy way of keeping myself looking forward. When the winter solstice passes, the days begin to become longer again. Yes, it’s a very gradual process (like 1 minute per day which my sons lovingly made fun of me for!). However, in just one month the days are 30 minutes longer!!! WooHoo. Time to celebrate. It might be slow but - it is progress and sometimes even the smallest amount of progress is enough.
This year, we might have some areas in our lives which need to progress slowly. Just like the days, there will be progress. You just have to watch to see it.
When I decide to do something, I don’t want to hear - 1 minute per day of progress. However, over the last 2 years I have been In the process of writing and publishing a book. Hmmmmm - Sometimes I don’t think it even progressed as fast as a minute-a-day. Just when I would think it was done, it wasn’t. A big spurt of progress would be followed by months of almost nothing. I had no choice but to go with the flow. That included standing in stagnant water and having to break down a few dams.
Finally - there is light! I can look back and see that those times of nothing taught me lessons which turned into something. Those minute-a-day times will bear fruit. Just watch and see how you learn and grow this year. Those minutes add up to hours of light! Make your mind to learn and grow with them.
