The Necessity of In-between
I have been an in-betweener. I used to read and store everything in printed form. For years I simply could not read on a computer screen. But I am steadily converting. I still print reading assignments to take with me on the go and read, but I'm doing away with the dozens of three-ring binders (and boxes) which have stored my articles. I've developed electronic retrieval systems for the articles and studies I read. The new system is still a little tedious because it's new, but I am convinced I will be happier in the long run. Since I have old articles in binders and new articles in electronic form, I am stuck in that in-between stage.
Part of growth in any area requires that we go through the process of change. And before the change is fully complete, we often end up as in-betweeners, which is neither comfortable nor efficient.
I have a feeling some of you can identify with this. I’m not moving, but I’m not stuck, either. I’m in between one great season and headed to another.
When you come to the place where you are in-between, there is one solution for that. Look forward instead of backward. I have to let go of how comfortable it was to line up those three ring binders, and recognize that I can't get to the next level of research on that old system.
1 John 3.2 says “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared.” Don't get sidetracked when being an in-betweener is tedious. As we keep our eyes trained on the future, we WILL end up at the next level. Forward. Ever forward.
Join me in prayer:
Loving Savior and Holy Guide, as I stand in the place of transition I look forward to the day you will move me again to the next level. I lean into you as I let go of the old comfortable systems of life. You are my Comforter. Thank you for pointing the way forward. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
